About Cimahi City
Cimahi is a small city with a big impact on Indonesia's animation history and industry. Located in West Java province and with limited resources, Cimahi tries to evolve by profiting and maximizing its only potential, the people.
Among all the creative sectors in the industry: performing arts, culinary, fashion, and technology, Cimahi decided to highlight animation as the backbone in 2009. The decision is made to envision the future of the animation industry to high impact on the economy and the demand for human resources in the industry.
Today, Cimahi has become the national benchmark of the animation community supported by the government and the home for Indonesian animation and talents.
The first and only international animation event in Indonesia
The Baros International Animation Festival (BIAF) has been a pivotal event for Cimahi, showcasing its commitment to becoming a major player in the global animation industry. The festival first took place in 2013 as Indonesia's inaugural international animation festival, marking a significant milestone for Cimahi. The event, supported by the local creative community, government, and the Indonesian Ministry of Creative Economy, featured workshops, seminars, and competitions, including one that awarded a student from Bandung Institute of Technology an internship at Lucasfilm Singapore. This festival set the stage for Cimahi's role as a key hub for animation and creative industries in Indonesia.
Following its success, the BIAF continued to grow, with the 2014 edition emphasizing "Hidden Talents, Global Exposure." This event attracted participants from several countries and featured diverse activities to highlight Cimahi's creative talents. The 2015 festival further solidified Cimahi's international presence, drawing animators from 15 countries and showcasing a record number of film submissions. The 2016 festival introduced new features such as the Student Short Animation Award and emphasized Cimahi's burgeoning role in the global animation industry. The 2017 festival focused on bridging creativity with business opportunities, while the 2018 event reinforced Cimahi's status as a leading animation hub, featuring international experts and local talent, and promoting advancements in the sector.
